Ermias Amelga

What is the book about?

In this book, we will see the unwavering desire of Ermias to stir up the sleeping economy of Ethiopia by conducting business at international standards. But he faces countless obstacles from the government and some stubborn old-style businessmen.
On the contrary, he receives many thanks and appreciation from his fellow workers and peoples who understands his vision.
The book starts by narrating his childhood in Ethiopia and how he moves from country to country because of his father’s work until he settles in America.

The book briefly states his stay in America, college life, and how he got into the wall street stock exchange and made it to the top. And finally, how he decides to go back to Ethiopia after the fall of the socialist government in Ethiopia, commonly known as “Derg.”

The bulk of the book is about what he accomplishes after he returns to Ethiopia. He opened different manufacturing companies and how the people inside the government devised other plots against him, resulting in bankruptcy and subsequent closure.

The book also shows how he tries to establish a stock market in Ethiopia and single-handedly organize the most modernized bank in Ethiopia. And also how he tries to solve the real estate problem through Access Real Estate and how it got him into many issues with the government, including imprisonment.

Above all, through the story of this remarkable businessman, the book indirectly tells us how

  • Ethiopia ends up one of the poorest countries in the world,
  • How extreme conservatism blocks the way for entrepreneurs, and
  • How conducting business in a traditional way hinders economic development.

Generally, the book shows the struggle he faces while pursuing new business ideas that are incredibly radical in this country.
