Yetangut Mistir (የታንጉት ሚስጢር) is a historical novel written by the famous Ethiopian author Birhanu Zerihun.
The main characters in the books are well-known historical figures in Ethiopian history, like
- Atse Tewodros, the notorious emperor who ends Zemene Mesafint and unifies Ethiopia.
- Etege Tewabech, the wife of Atse Tewodros who is wise and close advisor of her husband.
- Gebrehiwot (Gebriye), general of the mighty Atse Tewodros’s army and the right hand of the king since the beginning of tewodros’ journey.
The book sets its plot at the last days of Zemene Mesafint (ዘመነ መሳፍንት) and the reign of Atse Tewodros. But the book also slightly covers the time from Ras Ali the great to ras Ali the last, which is the period of Zemene Mesafint. In addition, the author adds characters from his imagination to sweeten up the storytelling.
