Fikir Eske Mekabir (ፍቅር እስከ መቃብር) is one of the most well-known novels in Ethiopian literature which is written by Hadis Alemayehu. As Lalibela is for tourist destination. Coffee is the pillar of our tradition, this book is the pioneer of Ethiopian novels.
The book sets its plot in Emperor Haile Selassie’s feudalistic regime in small provinces called Mankussa Washera and Dima. It explores the oppressive feudalistic government, the backward way of living, and the arrogance of the people at that time.
Bezabih, the main character, is the only child in his family. He is the skylark of the local church who falls in love with the daughter of the most notorious warlord of that province. Seblewongel is The daughter of this warlord, who cannot find a suitable match because of her family’s high standards. The Backward tradition of society at that time entangled this innocent woman.
In the book, Gudu Kasa is the rebellious one. He is the author’s character to criticize the feudalistic government of that time and the backward thinking of society at that time.
