Henok Alemayehu is an Ethiopian popular journalist who has a big influence on printed and digital news outlets. He is the owner and editor in chief of Zehabesha.com, which is one of the world’s leading sources of Ethiopian news. Henok is known for writing strong and well-articulated articles and blogs focusing on the political unrest in Ethiopia. Apart from being a successful journalist, Henok is also an event media coordinator, digital marketer, and motion graphics designer.
Henok Alemayehu Childhood and Personal Life
Henok Alemayehu was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Starting from an early age, Henok used to write articles that criticized the government for suppressing freedom of speech and detaining journalists using the country’s anti-terrorism laws. Consequently, the contemporary government of Ethiopia charged him with 12 different cases for defamation. Following this, Henok was forced to flee from his country to Sudan. However, he was not far from his pursuers. As a result, he again was forced to abscond to Libya after a13 days of a difficult journey. But, unfortunately, Henok didn’t get what he had expected; rather he was sentenced to prison for months.
Afterward, he was deported to Sudan again. Subsequently, Henok escaped to Turk through Syria. Later on, in 2008, he moved to the USA. After 8 months of his stay in America, Henok founded ZeHabesha newspaper to advocate democracy and human rights. After 13 years of exile, Henok returned to his homeland Ethiopia following the call of invitation by the Ethiopian Prime minister, Abiy Ahmed.
Henok Alemayehu Professional Life
In his early career history, in 2017, Henok joined Awash FM as a news reporter where he had stayed only for four months. A year later, he joined Bisrat TV and Radio in a role of a senior reporter. Later on, in 2019, he took the role of content producer in Arts TV. In his next career path, Henok became head of media relations at Biruh Minds Consult for two years. Later on, in 2021, he took a role of a motion graphics designer. Afterward, in 2022, he has taken a new role of assistant producer at Ethio FM 107.8. More importantly, in December of 2008, Henok founded ZeHabesha and published the first issue of the newspaper. Henok is currently the executive editor of zehabesha.com.
