Qualifications

  • Have at least University Degree in Finance/Accounting,
  • Has at least 5 years of financial management work experience
  • Has at least 2 years of finance experience in an international company or NGO
  • Has excellent MS Office application skills including MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Access, MS-Power point, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience using PeachTree software with success; knowledge of Quickbooks is desirable
  • Proficiency in English and Amharic languages; Ability to speak Afan Oromo is desired
  • Proven ability to work with a team and build healthy organizational culture
  • Demonstrate ability to manage staff locally and remotely
  • Proven coordination and time management skills

Job Description

Three Roots International /TRI/ is registered as a Foreign Non-Profit Organization by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), under Registration No. 4931. The mission of TRI is to cultivate community development and economic capacity by empowering families through education, health, and income generating activities. Through our integrated focus on these three dimensions of life, we strengthen families for flourishing futures. Currently, TRI operates its program in Oromia Regional State in East Showa Zone in Bishoftu City Administration in Gandgorba Kebele.  TRI invites you, the qualified candidate, to apply for the following position. Position Summary

The Finance Manager holds a central role within the organization. The responsibilities include overseeing end-to-end finance operations, project accounting, and analysis. Working under the supervision of the Country Director, the Finance Manager will also work very closely with the Program and Operations Managers in relation to all financial aspects of TRI programs, including the preparation of budgets and prudential, timely and accurate financial management and reporting. 

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Finance Manager performs a wide range of duties including all of the following:
  • Act as custodian of all Three Roots International, Ethiopia Financial system and Software.
  • Sets up all that is required to manage program resources under the guidance of the Country Director.
  • Oversee the financial operation of the organization under the guidance of the Country Director.
  • Ensure the monthly review of consolidated organizational budget performance against the annual project budgets; forecasting expenses and tracking the ongoing commitments against the approved cash position.
  • Advise the Country Director on Finance issues, trends, and changes in the financial operating performance and operational delivery; proactively communicating issues that are anticipated before they arise.
  • Ensure the long-term budgetary planning and costs management in alignment with TRI’s strategic and project plans, especially to improve the organizational development, increasing Finance’s contributions to effectiveness and efficiency of the organization by leveraging technology and accurate information.
  • Provide input to the improvement and development of appropriate financial management policies, procedures and systems across organization; Ensure that adequate internal financial control mechanisms are in place;
  • Maintain financial information, financial records, donor agreements and staff contracts;
  • Prepare and analyze budgets, and make recommendations on expenditures;
  • Review and monitor expenditures to ensure that program funds are utilized appropriately by  the end of each month, each quarter and by the end of the  fiscal year.
  • Ensure the preparation, accuracy and timely submission of financial reports, such as: Monthly, quarterly financial reports of project budgets, expenditures, fund balances, and account balances; Annual project status and financial reports;
  • Check and verify all inventories and promote efficient management of organizational assets;
  • Provide financial inputs for project proposals, human resource management, logistics, travel and others;
  • Responsible for all statutory reporting, including government filings, administrative fees, taxes and audits are completed appropriately and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Arrange transfer of funds to the field office per agreed financial guidelines;
  • Ensure adequate mechanisms are in place for budget monitoring and review and minimize significant expenditure variances;
  • Review accuracy of accounts and fund balances, and carry out periodic checks on financial matters
  • Support procurement, and obtain approvals from the Country Director on purchases related to the project;
  • Assist with the review of guidelines and collation of information for budget and monthly forecast preparation.
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly period-end reports and schedules for review.
  • Maintain financial records for projects in QuickBooks & Peachtree in a manner that facilitates timely and accurate management reports at month end.
  • Maintaining compliance with internal financial and accounting policies, administrative procedures and local statutory requirements.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting on the financial activity of projects and services across all cost centers with an ability to provide information in a timely manner.
  • Review project documents, and provide support on forecasting budget;
  • Manage the annual budget process, providing guidance and support to Program Key personnel and other team members where needed
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs and program budgets and actual expenses;
  • Develop documentation of procedures and recommendations for process improvements;
  • Perform other duties as required.
